jeweler ARTIST   STATEMENT
I came to this work as a painter and crafts explorer in 1967. I created a unique Grisaille enamel process with the addition of color and foils after 12 years of Grisailles' discipline. My metal smithing techniques are also my own; the necessity of concept driving the ability to execute.

I see the enamels, metals and stones as three seperate instruments working in concert. In the designing of my work the image in enamel is the melody. This is both underscored and embellished by the re-statement of theme in finely detailed fabricated metalwork. I use the other materials, fossils to diamonds, as refrain or counterpoint to the enamels' theme. The goal is for the finished work to be so orchestrated that the melody is compelling and complete and for the complex supporting variations, details, to be unifying.

The underlying sustaining motive for my work remains the same whether the subject is the natural world, the political world or a mystical world, momentarily turn away what is painful in the world by overpowering it with beauty of benevolence. Each piece is a story I tell while I am working.

Each of my pieces is unique; each is signed, dated, numbered and titled with a poem; all of which is engraved on the back.
